Dunlop Springride

Q

What is Springride?

Springride is an airspring made by Dunlop in France, and was previously also called Pneuride. These airsprings are mostly used in Industry but some vehicles are also fitted with them, as well Bell Earthmovers etc.

Q

What are Dunlop SP numbers?

SP numbers are the order numbers for the airsprings and appear on the label on the top plate.  e.g. SP1538 = 10x2 , so it has a 10 inch diameter when un-inflated and 2 convolutions (i.e. like 2 doughnuts on top of each other) The rubber in this case would have DF 10 x 2 (Meaning Dunlop France 10 inch, 2 convolution)

Q

What are Std Butuyl and Epi?

See the General airspring FAQ

Q

What does Crimped mean in the PDF name?

The end plates are permanently attached to the rubber bellows and cannot be taken apart. The Crimped assembly has no bead rings.

The rest of the air springs are called “Dismountable” because they can be taken apart and the rubber bellow only is available for cheaper replacement.

Q

What do the Rubber and Assembled Headings mean in the PDF download list?

Rubber means only the rubber part (i.e. Bellow only), Assembled means complete i.e. it includes the top and bottom bead rings and top and bottom plates and the girdle hoop (steel ring around the waist parts of double and triple convolutes) and well as the nuts and bolts holding it together.

Q

What do A, C, S, RE and NB mean in the PDF name ?

A = Aluminuim Plates.

C = Composite  (Hard Nylon/Teflon/Plastic plates)

S = Bronze Electroplated Mild Steel Pates

RE = 4 ply Rubber Bellow (reinforced for higher pressures)

NB = (Don’t Know?)

Q

I have a Springride bellow in my machine but although the measurements are similar, why does it not look like the PDF picture?

When machines are designed, the designer often creates new top and bottom plates that are part of the machine.

In this case the girdle hoops and bead rings are kept and the top and bottom plates discarded.

When renewing the air spring, you can buy just the rubber part (bellow) and use the old girdle hoops and bead rings. (the top and bottom plates may be part of the machine)

If your bead rings are damaged, you have to buy the complete assembly.

Q

I am looking for a 12x4 to get a longer stroke, can I get this?

You can buy two 12 x 2 and put them together, removing the plates at the interface and having a flat adapter-ring laser cut to join the two.

When stacking special care must be taken to ensure that the airsprings are guided and secured.

Q

I have a Contitech or Firestone part with similar measurements, can I replace with a Springride.

We have found that most of the bead rings are interchangeable.

The rubber part will usually fit an application that has bead ring with 8 holes although most Springride are delivered with 4 hole bead rings.

Q

I have an S number not listed on your page?

Look at the pattern of numbers listed and open the PDF where your number fits that pattern,

We have not listed some of the numbers for Crimped parts, usually the standard part has an option for a smaller air inlet, and there is an option for stainless steel end plates.

Q

What is the Dun SP Measurements.pdf ?

This is a summary file that lists the main measurements of the pdf’s given and helps you find out which airspring you have if you have no reference number.
